Installation

How is the Explorer wired into a vehicle? Explorer ships with a cigar plug for a fast plug-and-play start. For a permanent install with full mode control, cut the plug off and hardwire the leads per the instruction manual (black = ground, red/white/green = modes, yellow = sync/pattern).

Will the Explorer fit a Jeep Wrangler or Gladiator windshield? YES. The 65° Explorer is built for steep windshields like Wranglers and Gladiators. Measure your glass, use the foam pads if the chart in the installation guide calls for them, and keep the bar level.

Can Explorer be controlled with Core/other controllers and integrate with Core features like Cruise, Takedown and DVI?  YES. Explorer is hardwire-friendly (four independent modes) and has a steady-burn pattern so an external controller can flash it. Specific features (Cruise, Takedown, DVI) depend on how you wire the modes and what the controller can do.

Will it stick in warm weather? I live on the surface of the sun. YES. The 3M VHB tape used to mount is rated to 200°F (93°C). Clean the glass, use the promoter, press it hard, and give it the full cure time.

Will it stick in cold weather? I live in an igloo. YES. Yes, the 3M VHB tape used to mount is rated to -40°F (-40°C). Clean the glass, use the promoter, press it hard, and give it the full cure time.

Can two Explorer fixtures sync? YES. Cut the cigar plugs off the lights and tie the yellow wires together. It works for two or more. Set them all to the same pattern (and the same group if you want them simultaneous). They will flash together or alternate depending on how you set the groups.

Explorer is angled, won’t the light be pointed up into the sky? NO. The housing is angled to accommodate the angle of the glass while the optic inside the housing is directed straight out the glass.

Can I remove an Explorer after it is mounted? YES. Use fishing line or monofilament to slice the 3M bond (wrap the ends, work it between the foam and the glass). Clean the residue with an adhesive remover on both the glass and the housing. You will need fresh 3M tape to remount it. Read the manual before you peel the original tape, getting it right the first time is easier.

Colors

Does the Explorer come in: red/white only (no blue), blue/white only (no red), blue only? How about amber/white only? YES. Pick the Red/Blue/White or Amber/Green/White version and set the color mode so only the colors you want run. The light ships with all the LEDs in the package; you decide which ones flash.

Does the Explorer come as a single light or a pair? Sold one at a time. Buy the number you need for the glass you are covering.

Operation

Is Explorer visible in direct sunlight? YES. It is SAE J595 Class 1 and SAE J845 Class 1. The output is built to punch through daylight, not just look bright in a catalog photo.

Will I go to prison for using Explorer in my vehicle? Explorer is an emergency warning light for first responders, DOT and other safety applications. Know your state and local regulations prior to use.
